SAN MARCOS — Troupe of the Revolt was founded by Luke Jenkins in March of 2014. The aim of the group is to allow students who are interested in theater, production, screenplay writing, and costume design to create, produce, and perform their own productions.

The group was founded after Jenkins noticed how difficult it was for students to get into the plays and productions put on by the Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas State University.

“The theater department is very exclusive,” Jenkins said. “It’s very difficult to become a part of that, but that means that a lot of people who are good, just don’t fit the type that they want; and so I wanted to help those people out, especially because I’m one of them.”

Currently, there are 42 members. Students of all majors are welcomed to join. While every member may not be able to attend each meeting, all are involved. Different opportunities available to students who are interested in joining the group include:

  • Writing
  • Acting
  • Production
  • Costume Design
  • Web Series Design

Troupe of the Revolt is currently working on filming, a radio play for KTSW, the official radio station of Texas State University, and screenplays for upcoming performances. According to Jenkins, anyone who wants to join the group can attend any of the meetings or talk to someone who is already involved.

“The meetings are important to me because I think it’s fun to see the people I’m working with and be with them and talk with them,” Jenkins said. “If you want to join, find someone who is a member and talk to them and we’ll find a way to get you involved with something.”

Meetings are held every Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Lampasas coffee forum. For more information, go to the group’s website, or Like them on Facebook.

According to member, Tessa Ehrman, there will be a new street play called “Stand by Me,”coming the end of this month to the Quad. The play is written by Duncan Lott a fellow member of the group and will be based on the bystander effect and they will be needing the atmosphere of the Quad to complete the filming. They are hoping they will be able to stick to the scheduled date, but it will all be based on people showing up for the production.

“It will be done in the Quad and it will be very interesting, because we will have plenty of bystanders for it,” said Ehrman.

This will be a great accomplishment for the group and they hope the turn out will be great for the street play.

If you are interested in joining Troupe of the Revolt or  just want to learn more about their group and members, they meet on Thursday’s at 5 p.m. in the coffee forum in Lampasas Hall. Come and share the love and passion the group has for theater and practice your art.

SAN MARCOS– The Troupe of the Revolt is a group of students at Texas State University who are passionate about theater. Members of the group are there to improve and develop their skills in areas of theater and film.  The group currently includes around 42 students.

The group will soon be releasing a new web series called “The Late Nell Avery” written by Texas State mass communication student and group member Christina Kerr.

According to Kerr the story line of the series will involve a college student named Cassie who thinks that thinks a ghost is haunting her bedroom. In an effort to capture the ghost, Cassie turns on the camera in her room which reveals the ghost of a girl named Nell, who died inside the room several years back. Nell discovers the camera and begins making a video blog.

Kerr got the idea for this project while attending a presentation during Texas State Mass Comm Week.

“I got the idea for the story line during Mass Comm week, at an event about getting creative with your digital career.  Meg Turney from Roosterteeth was there, and she was talking about how in online video, if you want to get noticed, you have to have a unique and original idea.” Kerr said.

At the time, Halloween was approaching so the subject of ghosts seemed to be on her mind.

There have been some set backs in beginning the filming process for the web series; however, the group hopes to begin the series next semester. The overall series will include around 50 episodes.

For questions or more information about the web series contact Christi Kerr at the her e-mail address: cek42@txstate.edu
